Maradona released: Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona was released from hospital at around midnight on Tuesday after a nearly two-week stay for alcohol abuse treatment, a source at the Guemes clinic told Reuters. Maradona had suffered from alcohol-induced hepatitis and was sedated for days to help ease his withdrawal.

CSKA out: Holders CSKA Sofia were dumped out of the quarter-finals of the Bulgarian Cup in an extra-time 1-0 loss at Beroe Stara Zagora, while champions Levski Sofia needed a penalty shoot-out to beat second division Pirin Blagoevgrad. Alaves: Spanish second division side Alaves appointed Quique Yague as their fifth coach this season after Argentine Mario Luna parted with the club following Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Salamanca. "I want to put the team where they deserve to be and to do that we need comradeship and hard work, not a magic wand," the 47-year-old Yague said. The Basque club are currently two points above the relegation places.

Thun: The break up of FC Thun's former Champions League squad has continued with the Swiss club announcing the immediate departure of five players. After the departure of almost the entire Champions League squad and coach Urs Schoenenberger, the side is eighth in Switzerland's 10-team top division and just two points off the relegation play-offs.

GAK: Bankrupt Austrian club GAK have decided to withdraw from the country's top division and accept a 28-point deduction. Last month, GAK said they were planning to challenge the punishment - handed down for various financial irregularities - before the civil courts. Yesterday, the club said it would accept the punishment and concentrate its efforts on securing a licence to play in the second division.
