Mifsud: Coventry City striker Michael Mifsud is being linked with a £2 million move to Italian club Empoli. Mifsud was reportedly watched by the Serie A strugglers on Wednesday when the striker netted five goals in Malta's 7-1 win over Liechtenstein in a friendly match at Ta' Qali. Media reports suggest that a bid in the region of £2 million may be made for the striker who has a year left on his Coventry contract.
Vogts: Former Germany coach Berti Vogts was appointed as the new Azerbaijan coach yesterday, the Azeri FA said. The 61-year-old German will take over from Macedonian Gjoko Hadzievski, who was sacked at the end of last year after Azerbaijan finished bottom of their Euro 2008 qualifying group.
Galaxy crushed: David Beckham made a losing start to his second season in MLS when his Los Angeles Galaxy team were crushed 4-0 by the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. Beckham played in a variety of different positions as head coach Ruud Gullit tried in vain to find a successful formation. The former England captain and his Galaxy team-mates struggled to cope with playing at altitude, just outside Denver.
Rallying: Citroen's Sebastien Loeb won Rally Argentina for the fourth year in a row yesterday to go top of the world championship. The Frenchman finished two minutes 33.2 seconds ahead of Subaru's Chris Atkinson of Australia. Spain's Daniel Sordo was third, a further one minute 31.5 seconds behind, in a Citroen.
