United vs Inter: Manchester United will take on Inter in a friendly on August 1 at Old Trafford as part of their pre-season schedule. Before that, United will play four matches on a tour of Asia, taking in Japan, South Korea, China and Malaysia.

Maldini: Milan defender Paolo Maldini has given a cautious assessment of his chances of playing in the Champions League final with Liverpool on May 23. The 38-year-old has a knee problem but returned for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Catania. "After the game the knee was slightly inflamed, I had a twinge of pain but it is normal," he told Milan Channel. "Against Liverpool I will only play if I am 100 per cent."

Eboue: Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue has signed a new long-term contract, the Premier League club said on yesterday. The club did not say how long the new contract was for. The 23-year-old Ivorian joined the north London club in January 2005.

Kenya: FIFA president Sepp Blatter has warned Kenya that the country faces one-year ban from international soccer if the national government continues to intervene in sports politics. Blatter said FIFA's executive committee would refer Kenya's case to the FIFA Congress at the end of this month if there was no improvement in the situation.

Seedorf: Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf wants to stay at the Champions League finalists for the rest of his career. "My contract is long and I don't not want to change clubs at 34-35 years of age," the 31-year-old told reporters.

Napoli win: Juve's promotion will have to wait as yesterday Napoli beat Brescia away 1-0 to keep the race open and, more importantly, set a 10-point gap from fourth-place Mantova that would eliminate the need for play-offs. This match was postponed from Saturday due to fears of crowd trouble. Inacio Pià scored Napoli's winner in the second half. Juve lead the standings with 79 points ahead of Genoa (73) and Napoli (71).

Tigana: French coach Jean Tigana has parted company with Besiktas after the two mutually agreed to terminate his contract, the Turkish club said yesterday. The announcement followed Besiktas's failure to keep up with Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce in the battle for the first division title. Tigana took charge of Besiktas in October 2005 after a bitter legal battle with his former club Fulham, which he said cost him the chance of taking over as France's national coach.

Bulgaria murder: The head of the Bulgarian Professional Football League, Valentin Mihov, called for the domestic championship to be suspended after the murder of the owner of Premier League club Lokomotiv Plovdiv. Alexander Tassev, 45, Lokomotiv owner since 2006, was found shot twice in the head in the posh Sofia suburb Boyana on Monday. He was the third Lokomotiv president to be killed in the last two years.
