Li Tie: China international Li Tie is likely to return to China after being released by Sheffield United when they were relegated from the English Premier League, local media reported. The Tianfu Morning said the 29-year-old midfielder may not be ending his association with the Yorkshire club as he would be flying in for talks with Chinese second flight club Chengdu Blades, who are owned by United. "Li's destination will be fixed in July," his agent told the Chengdu paper.

Sporting, who beat Belenenses 4-0 at home, grabbed second spot one point behind to secure an automatic place in the Champions League. Distin: Portsmouth are confident of tying up a £40,000-a-week deal to take French defender Sylvain Distin from Manchester City on a free transfer before the end of the week. Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp, a long-time admirer of the 29-year-old centre-half, is set to pull off another transfer coup after the move which captured Sol Campbell from Arsenal on a free last summer.
