Club members Stefan Mallia, Maurice Farrugia, Edward Galea, Joseph Borg Grech and Malcolm Vella recently represented the All Wheel Drive Club at an off-road competition in Sicily. The team, comprising two Land Rovers, placed second. Meanwhile, the club will be holding their next off-road event on the weekend of March 22-23 at Ta' Qali. The A&C Stained Glass speed endurance will test both drivers and machine to the limit.

Badminton - Beginners course

The Shuttles Badminton Club will be holding a training course for beginners at St Aloysius College on Tuesdays, between 7.30 and 9 p.m. The first session is on March 4. Baseball - Winter tournament final

Torrents of rain poured down last weekend at Marsa but the teams still hoped to play the last round of matches from the winter tournament. However, the Malta Baseball Association officials wisely decide it was in the best interests of all to postpone the final weekend of matches until next Sunday. The games are now scheduled as follows: 3rd place play-off - 11 a.m. Gzira Mustangs vs Mellieha Northenders. Final - 2 p.m. Pembroke Torpedoes vs Gozo Tornadoes.

Chess - Blitz monthly series

The Malta Chess Federation will start a monthly series of Blitz five-minute chess events open to all players, whether members or not, without any age limitations. There will be nine games in one morning starting at 9.30 at the Chess Rooms at 87, St Vincent Street, Sliema. The event is sponsored by KPMG. Meanwhile, 23 players are currently figuring in the Preliminary stage of the national championships. They are all unrated or rated up to 1,850. The standard of play is considered higher than usual with some interesting newcomers taking part. This promises an even stronger challenge in the next phase - the Candidates.
