Solskjaer: Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer underwent knee surgery at a Norwegian hospital yesterday and will miss Norway's Euro 2008 qualifying match against Group C rivals Hungary tomorrow, a team doctor said. Solskjaer, 34, sat out Norway's 4-0 qualifying victory over Malta on Saturday but, until just a few days ago, he had been hoping to play against Hungary.

Scotland: Striker Lee McCulloch has withdrawn from Scotland's squad for tomorrow's Euro 2008 Group B qualifier in the Faroe Islands after failing to recover from an ankle injury. "Lee McCulloch was unable to shake off the ankle injury he sustained in the (friendly) match against Austria last week," the Scottish FA said in a statement.

Caglioni: Messina goalkeeper Nicholas Caglioni is facing a two-year ban for testing positive for cocaine. Yesterday, the Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping body said it had asked the Italian Soccer Federation to approve the suspension.

Petrov: Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov will almost certainly miss his country's Euro 2008 Group G qualifier against Belarus in Sofia tomorrow due to injury. The Atletico Madrid player, who underwent ligament surgery in October and only returned to action in late April, felt pain in his right knee after Bulgaria's 2-0 win away to Belarus on Saturday and tests have revealed cartilage damage.

In jail: The youth accused of killing policeman Filippo Raciti during riots outside a Serie A derby match in Catania in February has had a temporary jail term quashed. However, he will remain in prison for resisting arrest, ANSA reported.

Bramble: Defender Titus Bramble has joined Wigan Athletic from Premier League rivals Newcastle United on a three-year deal. Bramble, 25, is new Wigan manager Chris Hutchings's first signing.

Liquid pay: Treble-chasing Sevilla will have plenty of liquid refreshment to celebrate with after a brewery paid up on a promise to provide every player in the squad with his weight in beer if they reclaimed their UEFA Cup title. At a weigh-in, goalkeeper Andres Palop was presented with 85 litres of beer in 225 bottles and the process will be repeated for the rest of the squad.
