Athletics: Pembroke sprinter Darren Gilford yesterday figured in the 60m A Final at the Hungarian Indoor Championships, clocking 6.78 seconds, just outside his national record of 6.76 established this month in Birmingham, to finish sixth. The honours went to home sprinter Nemeth in 6.66. Gilford, 21, had earlier won his heat in 6.81. He will again race at the same Hungarian venue next month for the World Indoor Championships.
Handball U-18: Spain marred Malta U-18's debut on the international scene yesterday when they beat Milos Stanisavljevic's team 30-5 in the opening match from the Mediterranean Youth Championship in Portugal. Malta lost to France 30-3 in the evening match. They play again today against Greece. The tournament comes to a close on Sunday.
