Middlesbrough: Boro manager Gareth Southgate has run the rule over AZ Alkmaar right-back Gretar Steinsson but has yet to follow that up with a formal offer for the Iceland international. "He's one of a number of players we've watched but we haven't got any bids in as yet for anyone in that position," Southgate told his club's website.

Newcastle: Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has dismissed reports linking Kieron Dyer with a move to Tottenham, insisting he will remain at St James' Park. Newspaper speculation had suggested Allardyce did not regard injury-prone Dyer as part of his plans on Tyneside and it was thought Spurs boss Martin Jol was ready to pounce. But Allardyce said: "Anyone saying that I want Kieron to leave is talking utter rubbish. He is one of the successes of last year in that he appears to have overcome his major injury problems."

Roma: Roma have successfully negotiated the signing of Mauro Esposito from Cagliari. However, while the Italian international will play at the Olympic Stadium, Roma will only own half of his registration.

Wolfsburg: Portugal international Ricardo Costa looks set to leave Porto in order to seal a move to Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga club are in the market for a new defender since they sold Dutchman Kevin Hofland to Feyenoord last week. New coach Felix Magath has identified the 26-year-old Costa as the ideal candidate to fill the void in Wolfsburg's central defence. The transfer - expected to be worth €4 million - looks set to go through today as Magath wants to have the centre-back on board when he takes his squad to their summer training camp in Austria.

Miccoli: Juventus-owned Fabrizio Miccoli could be unveiled as a Palermo player as early as this morning, according to reports. The Sicilians have been tracking Miccoli for several weeks and newspapers suggest his transfer is ready to be completed. The former Perugia and Fiorentina striker has spent the last two seasons on loan in Portugal with Benfica. He made it clear he wanted a return to the Serie A, but after an initial interest in bringing him back to Juve, it seems Palermo promised a first team place.

Lazio: Lazio have completed the signings of midfielders Mourad Meghni and Lionel Scaloni from Bologna and Racing Santander respectively. Meghni, 23, was born in France, but has spent four of the last five years at Bologna, interrupted by a one-year loan stint with Sochaux. Argentine Scaloni, 29, can play as a defensive midfielder or a right winger.
