Toure: Arsenal defender Kolo Toure was charged with violent conduct by the FA yesterday following a clash with Newcastle striker Alan Shearer during Sunday's Premier League match at Highbury. In an incident missed by the referee but shown repeatedly on television, the Ivory Coast international appeared to bring his elbow down on Shearer's back. If Toure accepts the charge, the automatic penalty is a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

El Hamdaoui: Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Excelsior Rotterdam to bring Dutch under-21 forward Mounir El Hamdaoui to the English Premier League club. Simon Kelder, a director of the Dutch second division side, told Reuters that the clubs had agreed on the transfer and that 20-year-old El Hamdaoui was in London to discuss personal terms.

Pennant: Birmingham said yesterday that Jermaine Pennant's loan deal from Arsenal had been put "on hold" and that the 22-year-old has not joined them until the end of the season. The former England Under-21 midfielder was charged with drink driving on Monday and faces a possible prison sentence because he was already serving a 16-month ban imposed for another drink-driving offence last February.

Anderlecht: Anderlecht have asked the Belgian FA to review its decision to annul the champions' 2-1 win over La Louviere because the ball burst in mid-flight as one of the goals was scored. The FA decided last week the league game from November should be replayed. Anderlecht are now 12 points behind leaders Club Bruges in the standings and have two games in hand.

Bellamy: Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy has been fined two weeks' wages by his club following his public row with manager Graeme Souness. The 25-year-old Wales international has become involved in a public war of words with Souness over the last few days and club chairman Freddy Shepherd has responded by handing out the maximum punishment available to him. "When Bellamy turns up for at the training ground he will be met with a fine of two weeks' wages which is the maximum we can give him," Shepherd said. The fine would cost Bellamy £80,000.
