Some 15 members laid down like dead wearing gas masks on the steps of Castille for about 10 minutes this afternoon in a symbolic demonstration against the power station extension.

Holding a large banner reading "Power station to kill the nation", they protested against the government's insistence on a power station, operated by heavy fuel oil, one of most polluting materials to generate electricity from.

This, they said, was in breach of the government's electoral promise for greener solutions.

The power station, Graffitti said, was expensive, unhealthy and very heavily polluting.

And although they did not want to go into whether or not there was corruption involved, one would only go for such an option out of stupidity or corruption, they said.

The protesters also lit up two flares to create smoke.
