Real home-made burgers flavoured with lamb, oats and spices. The Quaker Oats replace the breadcrumbs and give a great texture and taste to these sweetly spiced burgers. The flavouring for these burgers originates from South Africa.
Serves 4
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1.5 tablespoons garam masala
85g Quaker Oats
450g minced lamb
1 large carrot, grated
2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped (optional)
1 egg, beaten
4 ciabatta baps
Method
Heat one tablespoon of the olive oil in a pan and gently fry the onion for six to eight minutes until soft and golden. Add the curry powder oats and cook for a further minute. Tip in to a large bowl and set aside to cool.
Add the remaining burger ingredients to the cooled onion mixture and mix well. Season with black pepper. Divide the mixture into four burgers.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan oven 160°C), gas mark 6. Heat the remaining olive oil in a large, non-stick frying pan and sear the burgers on each side, until well coloured (approximately three to four minutes). Place on a baking sheet and cook for 10-15 minutes or until cooked through.
Serve on toasted rustic baps with a lightly dressed crisp salad and finish with a generous dollop of fruit or tomato relish.
