A candlelight gathering is being held tomorrow in solidarity with all refugees and to offer a warm welcome to migrants.

The event – part of an international call for action for refugees – will start at Exiles in Sliema at 7pm.

The organisers yesterday said this was not a demonstration but a peaceful meeting of people who are demanding that no more lives are lost.

Participants for tomorrow’s event are being encouraged to take candles, musical instruments, food and drinks with them.

“We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world, all refugees and migrants. We call upon the EU member states to live up to their international obligations and to provide legal, safe and dignified ways of seeking refuge.”

Wars and persecution in countries like Syria, Iraq and Eritrea have forced the biggest refugee crisis since World War II.
