Campus FM is broadcasting a series of programmes in honour of folklorist and author Gorg Mifsud Chircop who died on Wedneday.

The station is reproducing the series Tisqifa ghall-Ghana Taghna, which Dr Mifsud Chircop produced and presented on Campus FM (or rather Ir-Radju ta' l-Università at the time) back in 1999. The programme discussed Maltese ghana and caught up with a number of people in the field.

The first programme was broadcast last night at 8 and will be repeated on Saturday at 12.30 p.m.

Tributes

The Mosta local council has joined Mosta residents in sending their condolences to the relatives of teacher and scholar Gorg Mifsud Chircop, who honoured both Mosta and Malta throughout his life.

The local council said that Dr Mifsud Chircop worked with the utmost dedication with the council on the project Smart, a cultural programme between Mosta and the region of Ragusa, Sicily.

He was also instrumental in the publication of various books and articles and in the Ghana Maltija evenings.

"All Mosta residents salute Dr Mifsud Chircop and promise that his name will never be forgotten while receiving all the respect he deserves," said the council.

The National Book Council has also paid tribute to Dr Mifsud Chircop.

It said Dr Mifsud Chircop was a reference on local folklore and contributed to the Maltese language and literature. One of his major activities was the promotion of folk singing.

He strongly believed that researchers had the responsibility of making people conscious about their culture.

Dr Mifsud Chircop served his country well and deserved the nation's praise, the Book Council said.
