Six swimmers from the Vodafone-sponsored Special Olympics Malta team have been selected to travel to Palma di Mallorca, Spain, for the European Aquatics Championships between October 14 and 19.

Thirty-five countries will be taking part in an event organised by Special Olympics Spain.

Alexia Wetz, Maria Wetz, Charmaine Mifsud, John Paul Fenech, Nathaniel Grasso and Ivan Mangion will be swimming to win a medal for Malta.

Under the supervision and coaching of Naomi Sultana Micallef and assistant Elaine Bonnici, the swimmers have been training regularly for the last six months to reach their peak ahead of the competition.

Special Olympics Malta provides training to athletes in various sport and also gives an opportunity to their athletes to represent the country in overseas competitions.
