Although I agree with Louis J. Bartoli (December 27) that some of our media presenters massacre our language, it appears that this was a typical case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Mr Bartoli gave three different examples of misusage namely: The use of ghalfejn instead of ghaliex, wafqa instead of waqfa and reindeers instead of reindeer.

Although I am not an expert on the Maltese language, I can assure Mr Bartoli that ghalfejn and ghaliex may both be used in the same context. However, he is correct to state that wafqa is a misuse.

On the item of his correction to the plural of reindeer, I ask him to check his facts in a good English dictionary and he will find that the plural is reindeer as well as reindeers.
