Two teams from the Ħamrun Spartans youth nursery recently took part in the prestigious Welsh International Super Cup.

Under the charge of Stefan Sultana, the U-15s finished on a high after starting on a bad note and losing three matches from their first four outings of the Class E tournament.

The Ħamrun lads did well to win their next two matches and qualify for the Challenge Cup final against Penparcau Magic, a play-off for third place.

In the qualifying round, Penparcau had beaten the Spartans 4-2 but in the decisive match Sultana’s players rose to the occasion and despite trailing 1-3 at half-time they hit back admirably to win 4-3. In a tense finale, the Ħamrun keeper parried a penalty to preserve victory for his team.

The Ħamrun Spartans team in the Class J competition, coached by James Cutajar and Paul Massa, also won their final when they beat Celtiaid 2-0. This match was played in heavy rain but the Spartans prevailed in adverse conditions.

The Ħamrun Spartans contingent in Wales was led by officials Noel Debattista and Martin Bugeja. The group also had the opportunity to visit Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium and Museum while on tour.
