ĦAMRUN SPARTANS     2

Caruana 35

Micallef  69

Ħamrun Spartans broke little sweat to overcome Qormi and move up to fifth in the Premier League standings.

The first half was devoid of scoring chances. The first real opportunity came on on 33 minutes when a good flowing passing move involving four players saw Wilfried Domoraud send a low cross towards the unmarked Moukanza but Jamie Azzopardi did well to anticipate the Reds forward.

The stalemate was broken on 36 minutes when from a Sebastian Nayar corner kick, Moukanza’s header was somehow cleared by the Qormi defence but in came Triston Caruana who rifled the ball home.

Straight from the kick off of the second half, the Reds almost double their lead when Makouanza picks Domoraud in the area but the Frenchman mishits the ball from a few metres out.

On 50 minutes, Caruana put Priso clear and the Cameroon winger rounded Azzopardi but his shot was cleared of the line by Alessio Cassar. Priso regained possession and served Caetano Calil but the forward fired wide with an open goal at his mercy.

The Reds were clearly on top and they killed off the match on 69 minutes when in a swift break, Calil did well to move past two opponents and release Karl Micallef who shot the ball into the roof of the net.

Qormi almost pulled a goal back five minutes from time when Camilleri was left unmarked inside the area and his header was cleared off the line by Orestis Nikolopoulos.

Ħamrun striker Caetano Calil was named as the BOV Player of the Match.
