HAMRUN 5, MELITA 0

Hamrun Spartans found little difficulty to secure their place in the second round of the FA Trophy after easing past Melita 5-0.

The Spartans were in control from the outset and they took the lead after only four minutes when Ryan Fenech found Marcelo Perreira inside the area and the Brazilian had little difficulty in firing past Jonathan Sapiano.

Melita’s hopes suffered a blow on 14 minutes when Rudi Alhinho fouled the goalbound Perreira and Melita’s defender was dismissed by referee Clayton Pisani.

Hamrun continued to press forward and on 17 minutes David Camilleri picked Gaetan Spiteri who fired the ball home with a fine volley.

The Spartans made it 3-0 four minutes into the second half when Ryan Fenech found Spiteri who lobbed the ball over Sapiano with Perreira pushing the ball over the line.

On 66 minutes, Ryan Fenech all but sealed the Spartans passage with a fierce volley that gave no chance to Sapiano.

There was still time for Perreira to complete his hat-trick 10 minutes from time when he beat Sapiano with a fierce drive after some fine work from Spiteri.
