Coach Luis Aragones believes Spain's exhilarating 3-2 comeback win over Ivory Coast shows his team are peaking just in time for the World Cup.

Spain fell behind twice before Real Betis defender Juanito rose to head the winner five minutes from time on Wednesday.

"We know we are capable of beating any team and are close to being among the top sides," Aragones said.

"We believe we are very close to where we want to be for the World Cup."

Arsenal forward Jose Antonio Reyes, scorer of Spain's second goal, said: "I think we are going to do well in the World Cup."

Spain have been drawn in Group H along with Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. The World Cup begins on June 9.

The African Nations Cup runners-up took the lead early on through striker Abdelkader Keita although the impressive David Villa levelled soon afterwards.

Substitute Bonaventure Kalou scored a stunning second for the Ivorians two minutes into the second half, before Reyes and Juanito secured the win for Spain late on.

With key players such as striker Raul, and midfielders Ruben Baraja and Xavi out injured, Aragones used the opportunity to give Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas and Villarreal's Brazilian-born Marcos Senna their international debuts.

The 18-year-old Fabregas put in an impressive performance in midfield playing from the start and drew praise from all quarters, with Villa saying he had "dazzled everyone".

Fabregas told reporters: "I was pleased with my performance and I hope I have done enough to prove to the coach that I can continue in the squad."
