My annual pilgrimage to Montmelo has come and gone.

An in previous years, actually more than in previous years, thousands of worshippers converged on the hill to worship this magnificient spectacle of Formula 1.

A record crowd of 140,850 was registered just on Sunday. The vast majority came to see their king of F1, only to be disappointed at the first corner. Fernando Alonso knew he had to try to take on the pretender of his throne, Felipe Massa, as early as he could, but contact between the two relagated the Spaniard to fourth. The rest is history.

But what has made me go to Barcelona 11 times to far? As with previous years, I travelled with a group and the fun started at the airport. These were all F1 devotees and conversation inevitably focused on F1. It was pure passion, thinking and talking cars 24 hours a day for four days in a row.

Lloret de Mar is also convenient because the circuit is only about an hour away from many hotels and traffic was particularly smooth this year, especially after the race on Sunday.

But the cherry on the cake, as always, was the pit lane walkabout on Thursday, where one could enjoy a close look at the cars, an experience that Spain was the first to introduce free of charge.

Will I return. Yes, definately, but there are many more races to watch and possibly attend before then. I already feel hungry for Hungary where the Thursday pit walkabout is also possible. Hopefully, leading F1 Tour specialists Britannia Tours are organizing a trip for the Hungaroring in the first week of August.

I wonder who will be leading the championship by then.
