Holiday hotspot Turkey could provide cold comfort for British holidaymakers in terms of value for money in 2011, it was revealed.

In contrast, the reign of Spain as a bargain destination is set to continue, a study of more than 200,000 holidays by The Cooperative Travel found.

The company said popular destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and the US could cost on average up to £149 more per person in 2011 than in 2010.

But resorts in Spain and Portugal are showing a fall in prices compared with 2010, with the Algarve in Portugal around £96 cheaper on average for a family of four.

The company’s top destination for 2011 based on bookings to date is the Spanish island of Majorca, followed by Dalaman in Turkey, Orlando in Florida and Cyprus.

Cooperative Travel said the biggest rise in holiday prices was to the US, partly because of the rise in the Air Passenger Duty airport departure tax last month.
