Schoolgirl killer Les Camilleri has admitted in court to another murder -that of a Melbourne teenager, Australian media reported

Mr Camilleri, 42, who was born in New South Wales, confessed to the cold case murder of 13-year-old Prue Bird 20 years ago. The girl’s mother was in the courtroom at the Victorian Supreme Court when the prosecution said that Mr Camilleri had admitted killing the girl.

She was last seen in a car near her home in Glenroy, Melbourne in 1992.

She disappeared five years before the murders of Bega schoolgirls Lauren Barry, 14, and Nichole Collins, 16, in October, 1997, who were abducted by Mr Camilleri and an accomplice.

The two men raped the girls and murdered them by a creek in eastern Victoria.

Mr Camilleri’s version of events, however, did not match evidence compiled by police.

The defence lawyer told the court the details of the case are still in dispute and as such, her client was not prepared to enter a plea of guilty.

The crown said they anticipate Mr Camilleri would enter a guilty plea.

The case continues in September.
