Labour has been vociferously against Malta joining the EU. It campaigned for years on end against EU membership and when in government it put Malta's EU membership application in deep freeze. Only recently Labour announced the candidates running for EU membership on its behalf.

Strangely, most of the Labour MEP candidates were at the forefront of Labour's NO2EU campaign, most notoriously Sharon Ellul Bonici who for years campaigned heavily against EU membership and even formed part of a deeply sceptic EU party within the EU. Maria Camilleri too was one of the campaigners against EU membership just like former Labour MP Joseph Cuschieri who recently relinquished his parliamentary seat to Labour leader Joseph Muscat.

Dr Muscat has been promising all and sundry a fresh start for Labour but when choosing his MEP election candidates he resorted to the most vociferous anti-EU campaigners.

Is this what Dr Muscat meant by new Labour? What a disappointment.
