As an ardent reader of sundry letters, opinions and comments on The Times, regarding so many diverse issues, I would like to suggest the following topics to stimulate debate:

1) Are suspended sentences granted more to make savings, i.e. to save on prison and detention costs?

2) Are Maltese really suffering hardships in view of the fact that the many bond issues raised over the past 15 months have all been oversubscribed by millions of euro?

3) Should the police conduct more breathalyser tests in order to deter and prevent alcohol related accidents?

4) Should wardens spend more time attending to traffic offences, thus possibly allowing voluntary/part-timers to stand by construction sites, etc?

5) Could Malta become the true jewel of the Mediterranean if politicians were true to their own beliefs and not party politics?

6) Is Malta correct in standing against divorce and if so are other lenient countries all wrong in allowing it?

7) Does God really exist and speak to us through His Divine Word (the Bible) and, if not, are all religious leaders not really called of God into their vocations and therefore deceiving themselves?

8) Does it make any difference whether we are buried or cremated as our bodies decay into dust but our spirits live on, remembering that at every stage of our existence, our appearance, values, pleasures etc, all change?

9) Should the proposed new consortium to run our new transport system be entirely an outside based company?

I trust some of these issues may stimulate fruitful discussion.
