Recently, my family and I had the pleasure and the privilege to attend a commemorative Mass organised by the Malta Muscular Dystrophy Group at the Millennium chapel.

It was held in memory of Denis Azzopardi who sadly left us recently, no doubt for better pastures, as well as for our dear departed former members of the group. It was indeed heart warming and a truly uplifting occasion to be among such giving and self-sacrificing persons, who, amazingly, considering the circumstances, are such a happy and very interesting group.

We as a family have benefited and continue to benefit so much from keeping in touch, even if very occasionally, with the group members who came forward of their own account in our hour of need, most especially Mr Azzopardi himself, who was always positive and forward looking. We cannot thank him and them enough.

The Muscular Dystrophy Group of Malta may be contacted at 4, Gżira Road, Gżira GZR04 (tel 2134 6688). I am aware there are many such support groups that are unstinting in their efforts to help others.

I know that we in Gozo may find it difficult, for one reason or another, to join such groups but I would like to encourage anyone who may be in need of their support to contact them as it may make a big difference, especially in those first days when one finds oneself facing seemingly insurmountable problems.
