Balzan - 1, Sliema - 1

Balzan Youths put up a battling display to hold Sliema Wanderers to a 1-1 draw in a balanced encounter at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Few believed that the newly-promoted side could take something from yesterday's match and that argument was further strengthened when Sliema took the lead on 19 minutes. Balzan defender Bledjon Guga handled the ball inside the area and from the resultant penalty Daniel Mitev rifled the ball home.

However, despite this setback Balzan kept fighting and their perseverance was finally repaid on 53 minutes when from a Fernandes corner, Kris Bright nodded the ball into the path of Miguel Ciantar who stabbed the ball home.

Sliema tried to regain the control of the match, but for all their possession they could not break down a solid Balzan defence who had goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri in excellent form.

Balzan goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
