A man today admitted in court to having assaulted a  female soldier at the airport on Sunday afternoon.

He was granted bail pending a report by a psychiatrist on his mental health.

The man, 47, from Mqabba, pleaded guilty to assaulting Stephanie Attard, slightly injuring her. He also admitted to disobeying police orders, swearing in public, breaching the peace and relapsing.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard how the man was receiving psychiatric treatment. He produced a certificate to back his claim.

The magistrate put off judgement  after receiving a report from this psychiatrist on the man's mental health.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Police Inspector Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted while Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
