BURLÒ. On February 10, MELITA, at the age of 84. Passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Mary, Hilda, wife of her late brother Arthur, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception church in Cospicua followed by interment at Zebbug cemetery.

EBEJER. On February 10, Rosa, aged 91, of Dingli, at her home, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Claire, Maria, Paul, Joe and his wife Grace, John and his wife Silvia, France and his wife Emanuela, Carmen and her husband Joe Abela, Dorithy and her husband Sammy Cassar, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves her home at 3.15 p.m. today for Dingli parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery in the family grave. Donations to the Dar tal-Providenza in Siggiewi instead of flowers will be appreciated.

SCERRI. With deep regret we announce the death of Victor, a former employee of the Italian embassy, on February 10, in Ceggia, Venice. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Anna Maria, his son Vinicio together with his wife Brigida and daughters Laura and Alessandra, his daughter Loredana and her husband Arturo Buttigieg, his sisters Maria and Yole and other relatives and friends - R.I.P.
The funeral will take place tomorrow at Ceggia.

SMITH. On February 9, at St Luke's Hospital, ANTHONY C.R., passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Rita, his children Susan and her husband Matt, Tony and Julia, his brothers Frank and Mike and his wife Jeanette, other relatives and friends in UK and Malta.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 7.45 a.m. for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St Paul's Bay, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement and Moviment Gesù fil-Proxxmu, Gozo, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Seminar on refugees

The ninth annual seminar series Work In Progress In The Social Studies will be focusing on the problem of refugees and illegal immigrants over the next fortnight.

On Wednesday, Ruth Farrugia will read a paper, From Inmate To Stalemate - The Rejected Asylum Seeker, from 6 to 7.30 p.m. in room 124 at the Mediterranean Institute near the university library. It focuses on rejected asylum seekers who after 18 months in detention find themselves free but without any status.

On February 23 between 6 and 7.30 p.m. there will be a symposium for anthropologists, Refugees And Immigrants - The View From Anthropology. The chairman will be Ranier Fsadni and the speakers Paul Clough (The African Element), David Zammit (Legal Categories And Maltese Perceptions Of Immigrants) and Mark Anthony Falzon (Immigration In A Globalising World - A Contradiction in Terms?). The venue will be announced at a later date.

AIESEC Seminar

AIESEC, the business students' organisation, will be holding its annual national leadership development seminar March 4 - 6. Applications can be filled in on university campus between Monday and Friday.
