Obituary - Maria Stella Cassar

Lina Moore writes:
My aunty Maria was called to eternal rest on December 12. It was a very sad day for me personally. It brought back many happy memories of my visits from Canada, where I stayed with my dear uncle Guzi and auntie Maria.

They were such a commendable couple. Religion and family were utmost in their lives. Together they had seven children, 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

I remember so many happy parties at their villa and most especially on aunty Maria's birthday every August 1. I used to feel so lucky to be on holiday and able to be in attendance.

Another important feast was that of St Joseph in March and I can picture them in their big kitchen preparing hundreds of zeppoli to give to all the children, their families and friends. Nothing made them happier than to be working together.

Later on in my married life and living in Malta, I enjoyed my weekly visits to aunty Maria. By that time, my dear uncle Guzi had been gone for a few years and aunty Maria was never the same after his demise.

I always treasured her good advice and will never forget that she made sure I had a place to go to every Easter when I would not be visiting my immediate family in Canada. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to see aunty Maria again a year ago when I was visiting with my two sisters. It was sad to see that she was suffering and ailing.

She made no complaints and while we were in Malta, she still had the family over for a reunion and made sure she had a parting gift for us.

Now she is at rest and united with her most beloved uncle Guzi and, together, they are watching over us from heaven. They are both missed dearly, and my happy memories will be with me forever.

To my cousins and their families, may you have solace and peace knowing that your parents are in a better place and looking over you from above.
