AZZOPARDI. On January 30, MARIA of Ta' Xbiex, widow of Andrew, aged 82, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Joseph, John and Mary, Mary Anne and Augusto, Margot and Richard Mallia, Adrian and Tanya, her grandchildren Simon and Charlotte, Keith and Marianne, Stephen and Amy, Paul, Christina and Andrew, her great-grandchildren Cameron and Kaithlin, her in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. for St John of the Cross parish church, Ta' Xbiex, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the family chapel at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

BONETT. On January 29, at St Luke's Hospital, MARIKA of Sliema, residing at Mosta, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Paul and his wife Veronica, their children Sonia and her daughter Kelly, Ivan and his wife Marilyn and Edmond, her sisters Carmen, Joyce, residing in Australia, and Antonia, residing in Italy, and their respective families.

Racism In Maltese Literature

The Akkademja tal-Malti in collaboration with the Department of Maltese will run a half-day seminar to discuss racism and xenophobia in Maltese literature at the Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, University of Malta, tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Literary critics, historians, sociologists, philosophers, writers and artists will come together for the seminar which will also focus on contemporary manifestations of prejudices and suggest ways to overcome them.

Entrance is free. Everyone is invited to attend.

Australia Day Dinner

The Gozitan Friends of Australia Association (GFOAA) will host a dinner as part of the celebrations for Australia Day at the Xerri Il-Buskett Complex, Zewwieqa Street, Qala at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

The dinner will be held under the auspices of the Australian High Commissioner. A number of local and international dignitaries have also confirmed their attendance.

This association is affiliated to the Friends of Australia Association in Malta. It has also commenced a membership drive which costs Lm2 per family.

The price for the buffet dinner is Lm5 per adult and Lm3.50 for children under 10.

Photography Exhibition

The Malta Photographic Society will be holding its 42nd open annual exhibition of photography in June.

The exhibition is open to persons aged 16 and over and the closing date for submission of entries is April 16.

Monochrome and colour prints as well as colour slides can be submitted. An international panel will select the works.

Poetry Evening

The Zejtun local council will hold a poetry evening at the council's offices on Wednesday at 7 p.m. focusing on the poet Karmenu Ellul Galea and the environment, among other topics. The president of the Maltese Poets Association, Alfred Massa, and musician Walter Micallef will both be present.

Everyone is invited to attend.
