German-Maltese Circle President

Ingrid Kidder was appointed president of the German-Maltese Circle at an annual general meeting held at Messina Palace on January 31.

Ms Kidder follows Albert Friggieri who stepped down after having led the Circle since 2001. She has been a member of the committee of the Circle since 2001 and holds the post of vice-president of the Maltese-German Association in Germany. She has translated several works from English into German, including books, and has coordinated various exhibitions by Maltese and South African artists in Malta and in Germany.

Course On Weather

A course entitled Understanding Weather will be held at the new Malta Weather premises at Zebbug every Friday from February 16 to March 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The course will cover weather instruments, recognising clouds, weather maps and charts, weather systems, basic weather forecasting techniques, understanding the wind and waves and climate change.

The cost of the entire course is Lm30 and includes handouts, refreshments and a certificate.

Talk On Prebiotics

John Wells, a paediatric nutritionist from the UK, briefed medical and paramedical professionals on the latest findings by Milupa and Nutricia on the strengthening of immunity from prebiotics in formula milk. The two companies have developed a formula milk which is claimed to more closely resemble breast milk.

Prebiotics, which are found in human milk, can now be extracted from natural products and included in formula milk.

Pemix Ltd presented the Department of Paediatrics with two pulse oxymeters, devices which measure the amount of oxygen through the baby's skin.

Cooking Demonstration

Executive Sous Chef Mark Cutajar will demonstrate the preparation of vegetarian appetisers at the Bridge Bar of the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort in St George's on February 18 at 2.45 p.m.

Zeza Tal-Flagship

Hermann Bonaci Productions are adding an extra performance to their schedule of the musical Zeza Tal-Flagship at the Catholic Institute in Floriana on Friday.

The comedy, written by Mikielang Borg, is based in a Barcellonetta bar where Zeza used to work.

Mr Borg's original script has been adapted into this new version by Joe Gatt with songs written on melodies from known musicals. The orchestra is under Mro. Dominic Darmanin's baton and Paul Curmi Dancers play the Flagship dancing troupe.

The main part, Zeza, is played by Frida Cauchi.

Bus Service For Football Matches

In view of the International U21 Football Match between Malta and Finland due to be held today at 3 p.m., a special public transport service between City Gate, Valletta and the Hibernians Ground will operate as per demand.

A special bus service will also run between City Gate and Ta' Qali for tomorrow's match between Malta and Austria due to kick off at 6 p.m.

Buses will depart from in front of the ADT office at the Valletta bus terminus. The fare costs 25 cents.

Prayer meeting

Charles de Foucauld Lay Fraternity will hold a prayer meeting at Dar Tal-Kleru in Fleur-de-Lys between 6.30 and 8 p.m. on Friday to show solidarity with refugees.

The programme includes reflections from the New Testament, Pope Benedict XVI's message for World Day For Refugees, adoration and prayers.
