A man urinated into his girlfriend's hand but was too drunk to remember anything about the incident, a court heard yesterday.

Loreto Farrugia, 29, of Siġġiewi, pleaded guilty to the act and to injuring two policemen in a band club in Qrendi on Saturday.

Prosecuting Inspector Jesmond Borg told the court that Mr Farrugia was drunk and did not remember most of what he had done. In fact, his girlfriend, Joanne Tonna, tried to take his car keys because he was not in a fit state to drive home.

However, they then had a heated argument in the car and Ms Tonna called out to the police, who were nearby, to intervene, the inspector said.

A scuffle broke out and Mr Farrugia punched a police officer in the eye, damaged his radio and tore his uniform.

He yesterday pleaded guilty to threatening, violently resisting and slightly injuring two police officers, and damaging an officer's uniform and radio. He also admitted to offending public morals, threatening Ms Tonna, being in such an intoxicated state in public that he could not take care of himself, using vulgar language and breaching the peace.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke jailed Mr Farrugia for two years suspended for three and fined him €200. She also ordered him to pay €120 in damages and placed him under a supervision order for one year.

Mr Farrugia is not to approach Ms Tonna in any way for one year against a personal guarantee of €1,000.

Police Inspectors Jesmond Borg and Carlos Cordina prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono and Charmaine Cherret appeared for Mr Farrugia.
