Joe Grech's chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the IBSF World Snooker Championship were over yesterday notwithstanding the Maltese player's 4-1 win over Mario Wehrmann.

This was Grech's fifth win from nine matches. However, his remarkable rally after a poor start in Group A has proved futile as now the likely players to finish in the top four positions are Mohammed Shehab (UAE), Stefan Mazrocis (Holland), Gavin Pantall (Wales) and Cai Jianzhong (China).

In another match yesterday, Alex Borg, already qualified to the Last 32 stage, beat Fung Kwok Wai (Hong Kong) 4-1.
