SmartCity Malta director Paolo Serra has resigned, effective November 28, for personal reasons, SmartCity said.
"On behalf of the board, we thank Paolo for his continuous commitment and efforts in promoting the best interest of the Company" CEO Fareed Abdulrahman said.
Mr Serra said that although his journey within SmartCity Malta was concise, it was a privilege to have the opportunity to work on a project with a great vision.
"Throughout my tenure in SmartCity Malta, I've consistently been inspired by the quality and dedication of the people. I sincerely wish TECOM and the government the best of luck with its continued implementation."
His resignation comes as the project is at the heart of political controversy, with the Opposition pointing out that no IT jobs have been created there despite promises that over 1,000 would been created by this time. IT minister Austin Gatt last month said the project had been delayed because the government took longer than expected to remove a pumping station from the site.
