Enemalta is calling on customers who still have old electricity meters on their properties to get in touch and have them replaced with new smart meters.

The installation of an automated meter management system in Malta and Gozo is nearing its final stages, with over 87% of electricity meters having been replaced with new smart meters. The remaining ones are expected to be replaced in the coming months.

Customers who still have old electricity meters installed at their residential or commercial properties were requested to contact Enemalta on its Customer Care freephone 8007 2224 (lines open 24 hours, seven days a week) or by email on meters.emc@enemalta.com.mt, to request an appointment to have them replaced.

In most cases, these customers would have already received notifications to have their meters replaced. However they have not yet provided access to their properties for Enemalta, the corporation said.  Old meters at vacant properties need to be replaced as well.

Through the introduction of smart meters, customers’ actual electricity consumption readings will be automatically transmitted to the billing system without the need for meters to be read on site. This will lead to a more efficient billing process and will make it easier for customers to assess and control their consumption patterns.
