The winner of the new word game series, which starts today, will be whisked off to Slovenia for a week in mid-July, courtesy of Brittania Tours.

A reader of The Times is being offered the chance to win a week's package, inclusive of bed and breakfast, airport transfers and taxes, between July 12 and 19. The winner might decide to go his own way or join the agency's excursions.

The winner will travel to Lljubljana, Slovenia's capital, which has visible remains of the Roman city of Emona. The old town, with narrow cobbled streets, is nestled between the castle slopes and the river. Particular highlights of this old town include the cathedral of St Nikolai, the city hall, the three bridges and the open market. Llubjana is a cultural city and in summer it is the place for art lovers, hosting about 10,000 events and no fewer than 14 international festivals.

The country's second biggest town, Maribor, is totally different in character to Llubjana and the other western parts of the country. The city is situated on the banks of the Drava river, in the hilly countryside among the best vineyards. An excursion to the city's famous wine cellar is being offered, where the winner would be able to sample the region's best wines.

The tour will also take in Slovenia's oldest town, Ptuj, located just a short drive from Maribor. There will be a walking tour through the town and a visit to the castle, the Dominican and Minorite monasteries, the Provest church and the old city's hall, among others.

A must see on the seven-day tour is Bled, with its castle up on the hill above the lake. The castle provides a panoramic view of Lake Bled, with the island bang in its centre and the surrounding mountains.

Postojna Caves are one of Slovenia's main attractions. The 22 kilometres of amazing stalagmite and stalactite structures, accessed by a short electric train ride, are among the largest in the world.

Meanwhile, the winner of the word game that has just ended will be drawn next week and will spend five days in Barcelona and watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix on May 9.

The winning words were mortgaged, placidity, serviette, threefold, simpering and tablature.

Entries for the current series should be sent in by May 7.
