Slovakia defender Martin Petras insists the conditions in South Africa are no better or worse than he expected.

Petras linked up late with his team-mates after playing his part in his club Cesena winning promotion to the Italian top flight, but is now focused on his side's opening World Cup match against New Zealand in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

Petras admits facilities at the team's base in Arcadia near Pretoria are not the best he has come across but says the camaraderie in the group is making up for it as Vladimir Weiss' men prepare to compete in a World Cup finals for the first time.

He told cas.sk: "It's very much as we imagined it would be, but we have to get used to it. That is the reality.

"I personally have experienced much worse hotels and equipment. But, on the other hand, there is a certain standard of how things should be done and presented.

"That's why we try to make up for it with the well-being of the team. We do everything possible so that we somehow have fun and fill our free time."
