Sliema Wanderers registered their third Old Firm win of the season after defeating Floriana 3-0.
A second straight loss means Floriana's hopes of a place in Europe are now hang by a thread and shifting their attention to the FA Trophy is now imperative.
Meanwhile, Sliema have reduced the gap between themselves and the Greens to just five points, with three matches left.
Floriana were reduced to 10 men when Ryan Camenzuli was given his marching orders after fouling Jean Paul Farrugia.
The Blues forged ahead on 43 minutes when captain Alex Muscat notched the ball towards Frank Temile and the latter sent it towards Mark Scerri, with the Maltese midfielder promptly netting from close range.
Past the hour mark, Sliema's goalkeeper Giuseppe Sarao held onto the clean sheet when he parried Mario Fontanella's penalty after the Italian was floored by Peter Xuereb, who was sent off as a consequence.
Sliema made sure of the win with two late goals, first through Farrugia who scored on 91 minutes while Temile headed home two minutes later for 3-0.
