Sliema are parting company with coach Stephen Azzopardi as the Premier League club struggles to win a berth in the Championship Pool.

The decision was taken at a club committee meeting last night. The final straw appears to have been last Friday's 3-0 defeat to Hamrun Spartans.

A spokesman for the club would neither confirm nor deny that Azzopardi had been sacked but said that the coach had been summoned for a meeting later today.

The team lost seven of its 14 matches so far this season and had one draw. It is fifth in the table with Floriana on equal points at sixth and Tarxien just a point down.
