Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper Simon Agius this morning filed a judicial protest against club committee members, claiming that they had spread false and slanderous claims that he was corrupt.

Sliema today play Qormi in a match which will decide which of them participates in the Europa League.

The protest was filed personally against club president Steve Abela; secretary Mario Debono and treasurer Marc Migneco in their club capacity; coach Mark Marlow and Ivan Calleja, public relations officer.

Mr Agius said there had been incidents, as recently as yesterday and this morning, when Steve Abela, Mark Marlow, Ivan Calleja and the club, had disseminated slanderous allegations of corruption about him. He also said there had also been attempts to intimidate him and his family.

Mr Agius said he had invited the committee members to join him in going to the police for an investigation, but they had declined. This further confirmed that their allegations were false and malicious.

The goalkeeper said he was again inviting the club to call in the police, and added that he was in no fit mental and physical state to play in this evening's clash against Qormi.

Mr Agius said that he had always done his best for the club, even though he had not been paid for some time. However now that his contract was expiring, he would seek a transfer.

He held the club and committee members responsible for damages and said a copy of his protest was being sent to the Malta Football Association and the police.

The protest was signed by Dr Stafano Filletti.
