Sliema Wanderers moved into the top three of the BOV Premier League when they saw off Hamrun Spartans 2-1 at the Tedesco Stadium.

The match turned out to be a drab affair for long stretches with scoring chances few and far between. However, that all changed midway through the second half when Alain Faccini was roped in by Sliema coach Alfonso Greco and the Italian winger left an immediate impact when putting his team ahead with a fine individualistic striker after 70 minutes.

The goal stung the Spartans, who earlier lost Lyubomir Vitanov after he was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the Wanderers grabbed a second goal nine minutes later when Miguel Ciantar fired the ball home following a Ruggiero corner-kick.

The Spartans did manage to pull a goal back six minutes from time when David Camilleri converted a penalty after Sliema's Luca Martinelli was adjudged to have pushed Angel Yoshev in the area.

Sliema striker Luigi Ruggiero was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
