SLIEMA WANDERERS 1

Ameli 74

ST ANDREWS 0

Kilan Ameli brought back some smiles into Sliema Wanderers’ clan. Sliema, below strength with Jefferson and Nicolae Milinceanu missing and long-term absentees Alex Muscat, Mark Scerri, Nikola Gavic and Goran Adamovic, never impressed and it was mainly through their defence that kept the team afloat.

St Andrews again left the pitch empty-handed with relegation staring in the face. But the plaudits should certainly go their way after a fine performance, particularly in the second half, which could have earned them their fifth win of the season.

It was not long before substitute Ameli paid desired dividends with the winning goal in the closing stages. The French striker conjured up a great shot that whizzed past the Saints defence and into the far corner of the net.

BOV player of the match Ricardo Correa (Sliema Wanderers).
