Sliema Wanderers were back to winning ways when they overcame Pietà Hotspurs 2-1 at the Tedesco Stadium.

The Wanderers dominated proceedings early on and on nine minutes Pietà goalkeeper did well to push away Fabio Mangiacasale’s drive from just inside the area.

The Blues finally got the breakthrough on 36 minutes when they were awarded a central free-kick and Andrea Pisanu’s curling drive flew into the top corner of the net.

However their joy was shortlived as five minutes later Pietà drew level.

The goal came from another free-kick with Claudio Frances’s delivery met by Luke Micallef who headed past Zammit.

A minute later Coleiro effected his first change when the injured Kyle Cesare was replaced by Neil Pace Cocks.

But the goals kept coming and a minute from the break Gnaboyou picked Aidan Friggieri who lobbed the ball over Cassar and in came Cilia who fired the ball into the net.

On the restart, Sliema remained on top and on 68 minutes Pisanu saw his firm drive hitting the bar.

The Italian was again denied by the woodwork on 76 minutes when from another central free-kick his thumping drive again smacked against the bar.

The Wanderers seemed to be cruising to victory but in stoppage time the Hotspurs lost a golden opportunity to draw level when Christian Grech put Cain Attard clear but the Pietà youngster fired over with only Zammit to beat.

Sliema midfielder Andrea Pisanu was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
