Sliema Wanderers and Mosta cancelled each other in a 1-1 draw at the Tedesco Stadium.

The Wanderers thought they had taken the lead on 19 minutes when Johann Bezzina’s shot fell into the feet of Michael Mifsud who hit past Cini but the ‘goal’ was annulled for offside.

Mosta took the lead on 27 minutes when Ian Zammit crossed the ball into the path of Gustavo who headed past Aquilina.

Sliema’s response produced a Mifsud long-rage shot that was deviated just wide.
On the restart, Sliema looked the livelier side and on 49 minutes Aquilina dived to his right to push away Pedrinho’s shot.

From the resultant corner, Aquilina was again alert to palm away Pedrinho’s curling cross.

After 53 minutes, Mifsud should have pulled Sliema level when the Malta forward was picked by Pedrinho’s cross but his effort was somehow kept out by Cini.

But Sliema were not to be denied a minute later when the Mosta defence failed to deal with Clifford Gatt Baldacchino’s cross and in came Mark Scerri who blasted the ball into the net. After 68 minutes, Micallef pounced on a poor clearance by the Sliema defence but his curling drive finished wide.

On 78 minutes Okonkwo came close for Mosta when he sped into the area but his low shot was blocked by Aquilina.

Sliema midfielder Pedrinho was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
