With autumn now in full effect and thoughts turning to winter, Skyscanner looks at the latest flight trends for the month of September.

The top three spots for UK travellers remain Spanish, with warmer temperatures and flights to Tenerife attracting more interest than Alicante.

Searches for flights to New York rocketed, shooting up the rankings to number four, as thoughts turn to Christmas shopping in the Big Apple.

Similarly, London rose three places, and Amsterdam two. Faro slipped two places to number nine and, despite various problems with civil unrest in recent months, Bangkok rose up the charts to make it in to the top 10.

Drop outs

As the UK’s hot temperatures of summer become a distant memory, Newquay fell from the Top 100. Croatian destinations Dubrovnik and Split also disappeared, as did Burgas in Bulgaria, Kos and Zante in Greece and Izmir in Turkey.

India’s Goa was straight in at number 80, Singapore entered at number 84, Birmingham at 88, and with winter approaching, Salzburg, a popular ski hub, also entered the Top 100 at number 94.
