A sizeable crowd welcomed double-trap clay-pigeon shooter William Chetcuti back in Malta this afternoon, on his arrival from Beijing in China, where he won gold at the ISSF World Cup.

The crowd clapped and cheered and a couple of fans threw flower garlands around his neck. Those welcoming him included Sports Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli.

The competition was held over three rounds Double Trap of 50 clays each.

Chetcuti managed 46,46,49 and 44 in the barrage finals to win the first ever gold medal with 185/200.

This was the best ever result in shooting for Malta.

The victory means Chetcuti has qualified automatically for next year's Olympic Games in London.
