Six people from Eritrea and Somalia left Malta during last two days to start a new life in Denmark and Lithuania.

The departure of two Somali nationals granted protection in Malta to Denmark follows other relocations throughout this year under a bilateral exercise financed by the Danish authorities.

The departure of four Eritrean asylum seekers to Lithuania is being conducted within the EU co-financed EUREMA II project.

These latest departures bring the total number of beneficiaries of international protection or asylum seekers who have been resettled or relocated from Malta since 2005 to 1,806 migrants.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Malta, the International Organisation for Migration and the Ministry for Home Affairs were involved in collaboration with the Danish and Lithuanian authorities at various stages of these relocation processes.
