Six Premier League clubs, the 10 teams in Division One and Victoria Hotspurs, champions of Gozo last season, were involved in the draw for the first round of the 2010/11 U*Bet FA Trophy, made at the Centenary Hall yesterday.

Pietà Hotspurs and Msida St Joseph must earn the right to figure in the first round proper of the KO competition as the two Division One teams will face off in the only preliminary round tie, to be played next Wednesday at the Centenary Stadium.

The winners of the Pietà/Msida clash will meet Hibs in one of eight first round ties, to take place on the weekend Nov. 12-14.

Marsaxlokk, Tarxien Rainbows, Floriana and Ħamrun Spartans will meet Division One sides Mqabba, Balzan Youths, Lija Athletic and Melita respectively.

Victoria Hotspurs, the only Gozitan club in the U*Bet FA Trophy, have been paired with Premier League side Vittoriosa Stars while the remaining two first-round pairings are all Division One affairs as Dingli take on Mosta and St George’s clash with St Andrew’s.

Birkirkara, the 2009/10 champions, Valletta, the FA Trophy holders, Sliema Wanderers and Qormi will enter the fray at the quarter-finals stage on the back of their top-four finishes in last season’s BOV Premier League.
