Six tons of citrus fruit were sold in less than four hours during the Citrus Festival at San Anton Palace in Attard yesterday.

People could buy the fruit, which is in season at the moment, and had a choice between oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruit and Seville oranges. The fruit, picked from the San Anton Palace orchard about two weeks ago, was also used to make cakes and savoury dishes.

The festival, which has become an annual event organised by the Office of the President, catered for all ages as children had their own entertainment and adults could take a peek at the palace’s private gardens.

The funds raised will be donated to Id-Dar Tal-Providenza, the residential homes for the disabled in Siġġiewi.
