Six people have been killed by an avalanche in northern Italy, Italian news reports said today.

The victims were two tourists who had gone missing in the Italian Alps and four rescuers who had been looking for them, according to the ANSA news agency.

The two had gone missing on Saturday afternoon while mountain climbing in the Trentino Alto Adige region, in northern Italy.

ANSA said the bodies of the six victims were recovered this morning.

The reports said the four rescuers were Italian. The nationalities of the two tourists was not immediately clear.
